The General Assembly, composed of delegates from 190 member countries, is the supreme governing body of the organization. The GA meets annually for a four- day conference, at which they adopt Resolutions regarding finances, resources for international cooperation, and general policy by a simple majority.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the highlights from the 86<sup>th<\/sup> General Assembly thus far:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chinese President Xi Jinping <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interpol.int\/News-and-media\/News\/2017\/N2017-120\">delivered the opening remarks<\/a>. President Xi underscored the need for cooperation. \u201cChina has actively participated in global law-enforcement cooperation and global security governance, resolutely supported international fight against terrorism, joined global cooperation in combating cyber crimes, worked with other countries in fugitive repatriation, fighting against telecom fraud and other crimes,\u201d President Xi remarked.<\/li>\n<li>Meng Hongwai, the current president of INTERPOL, also delivered remarks. President Hongwai stressed that \u201cINTERPOL in the new age should be an INTERPOL that faces the future.\u201d For Hongwai, a forward-facing INTERPOL would \u201cparticipate in the discussions\u201d and \u201ctake a stance\u201d on global security issues, as well as excel in \u201csupplying technical services\u201d and providing a \u201cplatform for cooperation among\u2026 countries, international organizations, private entities and civil society.\u201d Read the full transcript of President Hongwai\u2019s speech <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interpol.int\/content\/download\/35968\/465730\/version\/3\/file\/Speech%20by%20President%20Meng%20Hongwei%2086GAdocx.pdf\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>The GA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interpol.int\/News-and-media\/News\/2017\/N2017-121\">voted<\/a> to admit Palestine and the Solomon Islands as member countries.
